Lives United in a 13-Kilometre Journey to Transform Lives
The skies couldn't quite make up their mind. A blanket of clouds lingered over the morning; the air carried a gentle chill, yet none of it slowed the excitement gathering at the starting point. Smiles came easily, conversations flowed naturally, and before long, it was evident this would be far more than an ordinary walk.Â
Representatives from across the community answered the call. The Scouts, Kenya Red Cross, Traffic Police, the NEW VISION SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP (NVSL) faculty, students and alumni, Life Issues MinistryâThika, Life Issues MinistryâSolid Rock Community Church, Springs of Joy Center (SOJC) members and alumni, together with families and friends, all came together with one purposeâto stand in support of lives being restored.
Before the first step was taken, Captain Ndege led the participants through a lively warm-up session. Muscles loosened, laughter echoed across the crowd, and any lingering morning cold quickly gave way to an atmosphere of anticipation.

Soon afterwards, the walk was officially flagged off by Rev. Boniface Gitau, Founder and CEO of NEW VISION SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP, alongside Bishop Simon Kabocho, Founder of Springs of Joy Center. With water bottles in hand and hearts full of expectation, the team set off on the 13-kilometre journey.
The route became more than a trailâit became a platform for awareness. As the team passed through shopping centres, neighbourhoods and villages, participants introduced themselves, shared the vision of Springs of Joy Center, and spoke about the ministry's work among young men overcoming addiction and life on the streets. Curious residents paused to listen, waved in encouragement, and in some places even applauded as the procession passed by.
The kilometres gradually tested every participant. There were brief stops to hydrate, enjoy biscuits, and encourage one another before pressing on to the next checkpoint. Yet what stood out wasn't the distanceâit was the people covering it. Among the walkers were energetic children between three and eight years old, seasoned participants well into their sixties, and everyone in between. Each step became its own testimony that compassion has no age limit.
As the morning unfolded, the weather seemed to join the celebration. The clouds slowly parted, allowing warm sunshine to brighten the beautiful landscapes of Murang'a Kabati. Rolling farms, vibrant trading centres and peaceful homesteads formed a picturesque backdrop, offering constant reminders of God's beautiful creation along the route.
After completing the final stretch, the team arrived at Springs of Joy Center to cheers, handshakes and well-earned relief. The walk had ended, but the day's celebrations were only beginning.
A worship service opened the afternoon programme before guests were taken through the inspiring history of the center and its ongoing mission to restore lives. Messages of encouragement followed, each reflecting on God's faithfulness throughout the ministry's journey.
By then, appetites had certainly caught up with everyone. Rev. Grace and her dedicated team served a delicious meal that disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived. Between conversations and laughter, participants also enjoyed a presentation by Pastor Wallace K., whose message added another layer of encouragement to an already memorable gathering.
Visitors also explored displays showcasing the creativity growing within the center. Books provided by ministry partners attracted eager readers, commemorative walk T-shirts and caps found enthusiastic supporters, while handcrafted wooden phone standsâdesigned and built by the young men themselvesâdemonstrated the practical skills being nurtured through the rehabilitation programme.
Before bringing the day to a close, representatives gathered for a symbolic tree-planting exercise. It was a simple act, yet a fitting picture of the day's purpose: planting seeds whose impact will continue to grow for years to come.
A Pictorial Summary of the Walk as Captured in Time..đ
As participants began their journeys home, tired feet told one story, but joyful hearts told another. New friendships had been formed, old friendships strengthened, awareness raised, and hope shared along every kilometre. More than just completing a walk, the day became a reminder that when believers walk together with a common purpose, God can use ordinary footsteps to leave an extraordinary legacy.
