My birth name is NDEECHE-CHITEECHI MWANGA literally meaning: “the flying Wanga son” in my mother tongue (Oluluhyiah-luwanga language). My given names are CHRISTOPHER-BENEDICT (some call me CRISTO others CRIS) and OWINO (after the famous market in Kampala where my mother once traded). Am from THIKA in MOUNT KENYA REGION.
I was born in Wanga Kingdom, Kakamega county of
Western Kenya. A son to my father, Omusakhulu Attegnyi Wessonga w’Ommala wa Makhulo, who once served the British in East Africa as a King’s African Rifle (KAR) Officer in Abyssinia(Ethiopia) and Burmah(Myanmar) during the 2nd World War(WW.II). Afterwards he joined the Maumaus of Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in the early 50s. After the arrest of Mzee, he fled to Uganda where he worked in the Olubiiri(Palace)of The Kabaka(king) Edward Mtesa II in Mengo near Kampala as a home guard. But when Prime minister Dr. Apollo Milton Obote overthrew the Kabaka, it forced him into exile in Britain. Later he returned to his ancestral home in Western Kenya where he worked as a quarry-man chopping building stones until his death in 1997. His demise left me with my mother who was a mere housewife, but initially a fishmonger in Owino market, Kampala. She suffers from senility since she is much advanced in age today.
I stumbled into street life more by stultifying effect of desperation and joblessness in the city; as a result of marital separation and the sad loss of my son & job. Being the 7th born in a large traditional family of 10 siblings and left with no fortune or property investment, I was / I am the sole breadwinner in the family. I realized that I was not going to meet every need of my mother, kid-siblings and immediate kids if I resorted in staying with them in the remote village. It would be more shameful to me because there is always a huge demand for me there. The bright idea that came into mind was to move out and hustle far from home. And this is how I ended up stuffing my face with chaff food/dustbin refused refuses in Thika Town-Mt.Kenya Region for survival reasons in the city. And I give thanks to THE LORD for HIS unending-goodness and eternal loving-kindness (PSALM107:1-9) and will forever thank JESUS in continuity for taking me out of that experience.
Just as one day when my LORD JESUS visited Gadarenes in the opposite of Galilee, where HE met with one rare homeless-man who turned his life unto HIM and was clothed, fed and restored from a demoniac to a disciple (LUKE 8:26-40); so came my turn in Thika Town opposite of Nairobi city through the servant of the Lord, Rev. Simon Kabocho of LIFE ISSUES MINISTRY, whom GOD has continually used to cover the shame of my nakedness (REVELATIONS 3:18). It was during one of the Monthly feeding programs for street children at Mama Ngina Gardens by LIM, that they met me there. And thus I began my walk of restoration, by first rededicating my life to Christ, and shortly afterwards I got a job and a place to stay. The BIBLE tells me that IF THE GOSPEL BE HID, IT IS HID TO THOSE THAT ARE LOST (2ND CORINTHIANS 4:3). Unbelievable works walks with GOD’s rare servant Rev Kabocho in Thika, Kenya for he is a unique minister of HIS WORD that has continued to show love and minister to the street families.
Words from My Heart
If you are a child of destiny, the devil will always fight you to remove you or move you far from you legal inheritance in the LORD but stand your ground knowing that your true identity has already been configured to be more than a conqueror with my Living kinsman-redeemer (JOB;19;25/ ROMANS 8:28-39). I was dead but now am resurrected, erupted with awoken zealous and eagle-eyes to attest of the miracle of life change to all of us roundabouts us in The GLOBAL BONFIRE. I will remain one of the obvious fishers of men with Rev Kabocho for I am more than famished to fly with him to hundreds of thousands of the unreached and unchurched millions THE GLOBE-OVER!
The World-over, all humans being are hopeful for a better future and they have similar lifestyles. A sixth (1/6) of the World’s population are teenagers. And among these billions, 80% are ‘in the world’ serving satan as either smokers or alcohol consumers, and more especially boys. Reports from some countries say, 20% of our girls between ages 15-19 are experiencing more non-school related stress. They encounter life issues related stress like early pregnancies which is more rampant because of immoral sexual misbehavior among these teenagers which leads to school dropping-outs vices. Domestic violence, despair, experiencing abject poverty or unhealthy behavior like smoking and drinking also leads most boys than girls into the streets of our cities due to poor parenting.
As parents we need to have more time with our children to shield them from street life which is much more yoked to sinning especially drugs abuse and lechery. Life in the streets is not a pleasant experience and deters one from advancing successfully to their future. Immorality or sexual promiscuity adds leaven to a hopeless flock of those birds of the similar feathers flocking together in the cold. Street families or the homeless are seen as spoilt dead wood among the fashionable hybrids in the much polished civilizations, but it’s not so for many.
The Vision of LIFE ISSUES CHURCH in THIKA is to embrace the homeless. And I, Ndeeche, being a survivor from the streets; I urge our governments and others not to deaden others to the suffering of the less fortunate in the society but rather avoid criticisms and remain sensitive and supportive to rare men like Rev Kabocho and the plight of the homeless street families within and without Thika. This is because, among them are/can be found excellent ardent students like Morris, community-organizers and Global leaders like Obama, Presidents like Uhuru Kenyatta, ministers like Kabocho, writers like Ndeeche and Miguna Miguna, teachers like Jesus, Professors like Ngugi waThiong’o, Environmentalists like Wangari wa Maathai, Lawyers like Willy Mutunga and PLO Lumumba, medics like DR. JOHANESSEN ODUOR and etcetera. This would be possible if they can be given opportunity to re-examine themselves and re-pursue their youthful dreams in life instead of abandoning them in the cold as dead loss.
Also, the state, the church, schools and the society in general on humanitarian grounds, should teach our children moral values or non-examinable education offered to stop this Global phenomenon of homelessness. We should all be more than much willing to take responsibility for the homeless on the streets because OUR GREAT TEACHER and LORD, JESUS, taught us about this loving concern and we just qualify to accept the divination for “IN AS MUCH AS YE DID IT NOT TO ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESES, YOU DID IT NOT TO ME, – v.45 (Matthew 25:14-45 nkjv). The Apostle Paul, a most ardent student of Christ, continues “… NO ONE BE PUFFED UP (PROUD) FOR ONE AGAINST ANOTHER…” ”…EVEN UNTO THIS PRESENT HOUR, WE HUNGER, THIRST, ARE NAKED(POORLY/ WITHOUT MEANS), ARE BUFFETED(BEATEN), HAVE NO CERTAIN DWELLING PLACES(HOMELESSNESS), ARE SLANDERED(DEFAMED) AND MADE AS THE FILTH OF THIS WORLD BUT I WRITE NOT THESE TO SHAME BUT BESEECH(URGE) YOU BE FOLLOWERS OF ME(IMITATE ME)…” ”…FOR WE PREACH NOT OURSELVES BUT JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD” – (1Corinthians 4:6-16, 2Corinthians 3:1-6/6:3-7/13:3-8). Yeah, as a homeless I “WALKED IN PERILS OF ROBBERS IN THE CITY AND I WALKED IN WEARINESS, PAINFULNESS(TOIL), WATCHINGS OFTEN(SLEEPLESSNESS), HUNGER, THIRST AND COLD” – (2Corinthians 11:26-27).
Brethren, in conclusion, these guys on the streets are not all bad boys and girls, or highly immoral sub humans. And they all can change to be good and responsible citizens of our States just as me your Brother Ndeeche. Some have been forced there by acute family push factors and not urbanity society pull factors. Those who were once on the streets can testify, if allowed, to these truths combined that we had only one hope. And this hope while on the streets was that someone should come with some food, and get it into our mouths and finally take us out of the streets. I am very grateful today, on my behalf and for others like me, for whom Life Issues Ministry took out of the streets. We are becoming fruits-full and fruitful citizens of our scenic pacific Country, The REPUBLIC OF KENYA and remains yours very faithfully in HIS most exciting service, The Evangelist Ndeeche.
